Using Google docs to host shared files

This is a test to link a PDF file (A Byte magazine calendar for 2009) that I uploaded to docs.google.com and then shared.  Anyone reading this should be able to click this link and open the bytecal2009.pdf file.

Uploading an image file and trying to get a URL that retrieves just the image seems to be impossible at this time.  A link to the GIF file sends you to a google document that wraps around the actual image, as you can see.

Trying anyhow, shows this:

which is pretty much nothin'.  Why? It's a web page, not an image file.

So to get cubicleman.gif visible in this blog entry, I'll upload it from my computer.  So lets do that …

... and it works good!
